About Angel Scott-Bottoms

I Dwell In Possibility

Hi, I’m Angel, and I dwell in possibility. That is a line from one of my favourite poems by Emily Dickinson. I’ve long used it as a kind of mantra. When we work together, I will help you see the possibilities, too.

I grew up in Ohio in America, and have moved around quite a bit during my adult life. I settled in Manchester in 2017.  So I know a thing or two about what it feels like to be a little out of place — whether that’s in a new country, a relationship, or even in your own life.

If you had met me as a teenager, you might have thought, “Oh, she’s very outgoing and friendly.” And I was. But what you couldn’t have seen was how much anxiety I was feeling every day, or that I was living with a congenital difference (Poland’s Syndrome) that I kept secret out of shame and fear. I understand firsthand what it feels like to keep parts of yourself hidden and the pain that can cause. I also know how exhausting it can be to actively hide something about yourself and how lonely it can feel when you think no one knows the real you.

On the table, there is a white and yellow mug and a yellow bowl. Behind her, on the wall, there's a large, blurred image of a forest with sunlight filtering through trees.

Thanks to my personal development and psychotherapy journey, I also know the joy that comes from accepting oneself, being vulnerable, and connecting with openness and authenticity. I would love to help you experience that joy, too.

Before I retrained to be a psychotherapist, I spent my life mentoring, teaching, and coaching people at many stages of their lives. I’ve taught English in Japan and the US, taught sex education to teenagers in Alabama, and owned and operated children’s businesses in the US and UK, working with parents, babies and toddlers. I also spent a few years working as a small business coach.

I’ve loved all the ways I’ve been able to help people through the years. And I bring all of those experiences with me to my practice now. But it is a special privilege to work with people therapeutically. I hold the vulnerability of my clients as a serious responsibility and will work to make sure you feel comfortable and safe.
