Individual Therapy
Therapy for adults who look fine on the outside…
From the outside, you might look like you’re holding it all together.
But inside, it feels different. You might not know exactly what’s wrong, but you know you want to feel better. Calmer. More “normal”.
Maybe you’re anxious after every interaction, overthinking what you said.
Maybe you feel like you’re performing and that no one knows the real you.
Or maybe you’re just stuck. Overwhelmed by the pressure you put on yourself.
You are not alone.
What is individual therapy?
In therapy, we can slow down, explore what’s going on for you, and begin to make sense of the parts you’ve been hiding or pushing away. We’ll start by talking about what brought you to therapy and what you would like to be different as a result. Then we’ll agree on a way forward that feels comfortable for you.
My approach is integrative and relational — which means we’ll work collaboratively, in a way that feels safe, flexible, and suited to you. I draw primarily on Integrative Transactional Analysis, but I also bring in ideas from eco-psychotherapy and interpersonal neurobiology. That might mean exploring your patterns and relationships, noticing how you feel in your body and environment, and understanding anxiety through the lens of how your brain and nervous system respond to stress.
I often use creative methods, metaphor, and psychoeducation to help make complex ideas relatable and useful in your everyday life. My background as a teacher and coach helps me adapt my approach to each person — offering structure when that’s helpful, and spaciousness when what’s needed is simply to be.
Who is individual therapy for?
My therapy is for people who have been keeping their head above water, and in some cases outwardly thriving, but inside are struggling.
Some of my clients describe this struggle as anxiety or depression. Some say they feel lonely or disconnected. Many of my clients would say they have self esteem issues. Some tell me they feel fake, or like they don’t belong.
But what they all have in common is they are ready to feel different. They come to therapy with a glimmer of hope that there could be another way to feel and be. And they are ready to look at their process, their family history, their story, and see how they got to be how they are, and how they can feel safe enough to change things.
What are the benefits of individual therapy?
Many of my clients say they just want to feel “okay.” We can get you to okay.
But as I dwell in possibility, here’s what else is possible in this work:
Developing a clearer sense of self, direction, and meaning
Healing emotional patterns that keep you distant or stuck
Building a life that feels aligned with your values
Reclaiming a sense of belonging
Lessening your anxiety and overthinking
Developing emotional resilience
Connecting to the needs of your inner child
Navigating complex emotions like grief, anger, and loneliness
Being kinder to yourself and feeling good about who you are
What does the process look like?
Like my flexible approach to the work itself, I am also flexible on the logistics. Many clients come weekly at the same time each week. But a good number attend fortnightly. We will agree on your goals for therapy and how often you would like to meet. I charge £60 for a 50 minute to 1 hour session. (This means that the session will always be at least 50 minutes, but I keep the hard stop boundary at 1 hour.) That works best with my brain process!
FAQS

In any therapy, the outcome will be better if you are comfortable with your therapist and build a good relationship. This call will give you the chance to see if my style and approach will work for you. It will also give me a chance to hear a little about your presenting problem and make sure I have the training and skills to help you. This doesn’t mean I’ll be deciding if you are too much, or your case is too complicated. It is more about my specific competence (or not) with certain issues. For example, if you had an active eating disorder, I would tell you I am not trained in that area, and I would pass on a referral to another therapist. We’ll also look at simple logistics- am I available at the time(s) you could meet.

Yes! I am very comfortable and experienced working with neurodiversity.

This really depends on the individual and their goals. I have no set number. Some people get what they need in a few sessions. I have a few clients who have been working with me for over two years. We can talk about your individual needs at your first session.

I can have sessions on Zoom, yes. But I’ll be honest, I do prefer face-to face. I tend to work on Zoom with clients who start out face-to-face and then move, or have an accessibility issue arise. But if you think we would be a good match, and you do not live in Manchester, I am certainly open to the possibility!
